St. Vincent De Paul Society

WHO ME?

SVdP?

"I WISH I COULD......

DO MORE TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE....
HELP MY COMMUNITY....
HELP MY NEIGHBOR...."

Have you ever said these words to yourself?

If you have, you can help!

You can make a difference in someone’s life when you join
the Saint Vincent de Paul Society (SVdP)

St. Vincent de Paul Society

An Invitation to Join

The St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVdP) is easy to join.

All you need is the desire to join with others for the love of God, to serve those in need.

The work of SVdP is the Gospel message in action:

I was hungry
I was thirsty
I was a stranger
I was naked
I was sick
I was in prison
and you cared.

Come see the face of Christ in your neighbor, Christians
have an obligation to server others. This service can be
done as an individual, but is often better accomplished by
being a member of a world wide Society.

As a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society you will be helping those in need through friendship and personal encounters. There are a number of ways you can help and serve others as an SVdP member:

No matter how much or how little time you have, if you have
the desire, we can find a way for you to help others!

WAYS YOU CAN HELP:

Become a CASEWORKER:

  • Attending as many Tuesday evening meetings as possible - meetings are typically about an hour
  • Assisting clients to help themselves with the basic day-to-day needs like food and financial help with rent, utilities, etc.
  • Visiting clients in their home, with another caseworker to listen and assess their needs, usually about one or two hours per week
  • Presenting the cases of those in need to the group and determining the necessary action(s) to best assist the client

Attend Weekly Meetings
Meeting format:

  • Prayers and reflection are included to remind members that the motivation for their work is the love of God and our commitment to helping others
  • Business discussed at the meeting remains strictly confidential
  • Meetings help the group focus on the business of clients in need, while also building the spirit of community and camaraderie among members as they form bonds of friendship and grow in their spirituality.

Become a Hotline Worker:

  • If your time is a constraint, consider becoming one of our hotline volunteers.
  • A hotline volunteer donates their time one day a week to: Answer the SVdP Hotline by retrieving calls off of a remote answering machine from their own home/work phone, respond to calls by letting caseworkers know that a client has left a message for them and enter information of new and existing cases in a web based database.
  • High speed Internet access, a phone and a few hours a week is all that is required.
  • Food Pantry Assistance:

  • Help us to stock our food pantry with generously donated goods from our parishioners as well as larger deliveries from the Atlanta food bank.
  • Help to shop at the food bank and unload the purchases.
  • Help to break down larger quantities into more manageable amounts. Double bag our grocery bags.
  • Meet clients to distribute food from our pantry at your convenience.
  • Deliver groceries to disabled clients who have no transport.
  • Furniture Pick-up / Delivery

    • Do you have a truck or even just an able body to partner with another volunteer with a truck to help to deliver furniture to our clients.

    Bread pick-up from local stores

    • Can you give 2 hours one day a month at 9pm? If so, we could use your time to pick up bread from a local store, take it home, bag it and deliver it to the church the next day, at your convenience.

    Thrift Store Volunteer

    • Our Thrift Store is open Monday - Saturday and is always in need of regular volunteers to help to sort merchandise, help customers and run the cash register.

    "House of Dreams" Volunteer

    • Our temporary housing program for single women is in need of mentors, housing inspectors etc. You can become involved in the ladies lives individually as a mentor or you can help the program by becoming an apartment inspector.
